Every wedding has a story and this is one is all about fate! Yes, I’m sure it was fate that led Ben and Brandon together, but it was also fate that led me to photograph their wedding day. I don’t want to share all the details but I will say I met Ben and Brandon for the first time two days before their wedding and was hired just a week before their big day. I knew I was going to love them simply from our first few email exchanges and I was right. Ben and Brandon and their best man and best women were SO MUCH FUN! Ben had their timeline planned out like a well oil machined and it ran that way too. The day was organized and laid back and just an all around fun day. While the pre ceremony photos were fun, the ceremony was emotional and equally as amazing. The clouds covered us perfectly and their guests were in tears as they said their vows. Ben and Brandon chose to have a little down time after their ceremony and before their reception which is such a great idea. It was also important to them to attend their cocktail hour. In fact they did their introduction and entrance at cocktail hour and it was one of the funniest entrances I have seen. Once everyone made their way into the reception for welcome speeches, it was met by more emotional moments and stories and their first dance as married spouses! The night ended with an all guest dance party, including Brandon’s grandmother! I am so lucky to have had fate send this lovely couple together and to have had the opportunity to photograph one part of their love story. I have a feeling this love story will lead to a few more happy endings, as the day I posted their sneak peak I received a very emotional message from a couple seeking wedding vendors for a wedding they’ve unfortunately had a very difficult time planning. So for now, congratulations to these two newlyweds as they enjoy post wedding bliss and a lifetime of happiness.
After dating for 6 years Tori and Chris said their vows at their spring wedding this May filled with family, friends, and so much love! Tori and Chris chose the colors of light pink and light green to create a beautiful spring tone. The bridesmaids worse an array of light pink and light green dresses in different styles and wore the cutest tan shoes again all in different styles! The men looked dashing in their light green and light pink ties with classic gray suits. Tori and Chris chose to get married at The Granary at Valley Pike because of their love for the outdoors. They had planned for an outdoor wedding but due to weather they decided to have their ceremony indoors which was equally as beautiful with the restored barnwood and natural light!
The Granary at Valley Pike is a newer wedding venue and I was so excited to get to shoot a wedding there, especially this wedding! The fields were so green in contrast to the white and brown barn. Their bridal and groom suites are so pretty too and the girls robes looked perfect in the white washed wood room. Tori had the sweetest first look with her dad while finishing getting ready, there wasn't a dry eye in the room!!
Tori and Chris are so laid back and their entire wedding day reflected the ease and comfort they share in their love. They chose to spend a few minutes alone after their ceremony which is such a special time to have. While they followed most of the common wedding traditions they also added a few unique details to their wedding, like the visit from the Virginia Tech Hokie bird. The Hokie bird joined us for some fun portraits and spent time with the guests at the start of the reception too. They also had the Bella Luna Pizza truck which was so delicious. They ended the day with a bubble exit.
While spring weather may be unpredictable the lighting after rain is always beautiful. So after their bubble exit and the final rainfall for the day we went back into the fields for some beautiful bride and groom portraits. I loved the timing of these portraits because most of the guests had left and the bride and groom were feeling elated from being married, but also relaxed and at ease from the pressure of their wedding day. Tori's wedding dress was so much fun to photograph because it was so full of movement. They walked, danced, and twirled all around the The Granary and Valley Pike Market! She also chose to wear comfortable and cute crotched Tom shoes which were perfect. Enjoy this the images from this beautiful mostly outdoor spring wedding at The Granary!
Special thanks to all the amazing vendors that made Tori and Chris' wedding day perfect!

After "meeting" over the phone and finally in person at a Cross Keys Vineyard bridal luncheon, I was so excited for Robert and Cassie's engagement session at the State Arboretum in Winchester. They were so loving and affectionate with one another it made their session so easy. Fast forward to a warm September day at Cross Keys Vineyards, their wedding day was finally here! I'm always so excited to see the dress and details the bride has chosen when I first arrive and Cassie's dress was no exception. Her dress was so beautiful on the hanger I spent at least 10 minutes with her dress alone! Then, it was the sparkly blue Kate Spade shoes that Robert bought her that stole my attention next!!
Cassie and Robert chose not to do a first look. However, they did talk to each other before the ceremony over the balcony which then led to some amazing bridal portraits as well. Cassie's dress was not only gorgeous, but it fit her so perfectly. She was simply stunning and you can see just how stunning by Robert's reaction to seeing her walking down the aisle. Their ceremony was so emotional, filled with both tears and some great reactions from Robert when he finally got to put on his ring! I loved watching these two become husband and wife and the joy on the faces of their friends and family spoke volumes.
After their outdoor ceremony, we took family and group photos but quickly snuck away to spend most of our time on bride and groom portraits. I always ask each couple to prioritize their photo time so they get more of the types of images they want and can also maximize their time spent with friends and family. Cassie and Robert wanted to do some of their portraits in the wine cellar and vineyards which is a perfect way to commemorate getting married at a vineyard. We also spent a few minutes in the gorgeous golden hour as the sun set over the vines, it was truly the most perfect light!!
Cassie and Robert's reception started with a lot of first dances, and a few more tears. Next they had a delicious meal followed by some fun games, cake cutting, and a lot of dancing. Mid way through the night they put out a s'mores bar on the outdoor patio just as it started to cool off a bit outside. Another hour or so into the night there was a taco bar for a "midnight" snack. Cassie and Robert chose a sparkler exit to end their night as they left for their next adventure..... an even more romantic honeymoon!!
Best wishes to these newlyweds as you begin your new life together as husband and wife!
Jessica and Walt chose one of the most beautiful locations on the east coast for their wedding day! Wintergreen Resort has so many picturesque spots for an outdoor wedding. The Blue Ridge mountains in the summer are full of greenery, but still look blue which is what makes them so beautiful. I love that they chose the mountains as the backdrop for their first look and ceremony. Mountain weddings are quickly becoming a favorite of mine. Jessica and Walt chose beautiful colors of gray and yellow to accent the mountain scenery. So many perfect details for a summer wedding.
Their wedding day started at the Wintergreen spa for hair and make up and then back in the lodges for the final touches. The girls' lodge was full of light and rustic details. The flower girls were so sweet getting into their tulle dresses with big bows. Walt sent Jessica the sweetest wedding day gift and Jessica wore another very special bracelet for her wedding day, a gift from her late grandmother. The bridesmaids wore beautiful yellow jewelry to match their gray dresses and the guys looked so amazing in their yellow accented bow ties and pocket squares. Walt even added some yellow Converse sneakers to his wedding day wardrobe!
Jessica and Walt had their first look at the highest overlook at Wintergreen. With the mountains just peaking up in the background they had the sweetest first look. They laughed, kissed, talked, and shared a few sweet private moments before saying "I do". Jessica and Walt chose to do all their portraits before the ceremony so they could enjoy cocktail hour with their friends and family. Their cocktail hour was outside on the terrace again overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains and the ski lifts at Wintergreen. They had games for the kids and adults and some delicious looking appetizers too.
The reception was held indoors at the Skyline Pavillion. The tables were decorated with beautiful yellow flowers, lanterns, and wooden table numbers. There was a cupcake table filled with a variety of flavors, including chocolate bacon cupcakes! The room had a large dance floor which was filled with glow sticks late in the night and a lot of dancing! The entire night was full of energy and laughter and ended with a sparkler exit that almost didn't happen due to a few sprinkles! The guests were then invited to an after hours party which I'm sure just became more fun as the night went on.
I'm so excited to be doing a few more weddings at Wintergreen this year. Mountain weddings are unique in so many ways and they have a scenery that cannot be matched. I hope you all enjoy these images as much as I enjoyed taking them!!

Jess and Logan planned the most beautiful outdoor wedding. They lived and worked on the farm in Charlottesville for several years and wanted to be married there before moving off the property. The property at Oakencroft is breathtaking. There are mountain views and open fields for miles and it's the perfect location for an outdoor wedding. They chose a spot on the top of a hill for their ceremony and reception. Guests were invited to camp at the property just down the hill from the festivities. Outdoor summer weddings can be tricky to plan. There was an 80% chance of rain for ten days leading up to their outdoor wedding. The day before the wedding the chance of rain dropped to 20% and there was not a single drop of rain the entire day!! We did trade the rain for some very sunny and warm weather for their June wedding, but I'll take that over rain any day!
Jess, Logan, and their friends were a blast to work with. They were full of laughter and energy throughout the whole day and night. Their portraits show how much fun they were truly having and their wedding reception even included the limbo! Jess and Logan chose the wedding colors of plum, lavender, and sage to compliment the outdoor farm venue. The bridesmaids and brides"man" also wore the most beautiful plum dresses and tie to compliment the groomsmen and their sage ties. They filled their reception with sage greenery and pops of plum flowers. Their naked cake and whoopie pies topped off the night along with an amazing sunset and a high energy sparkler exit. If you are planning a June wedding, or an outdoor wedding you will want to check out all the details of this blog post!!
